Presenter Lucie Cutting speaking with Marti Cuatt In the 936 ABC Hobart studio

In Season – my exciting new media spot

From an exciting invitation to an ongoing guest spot, I’m now delighted to be a regular voice on In Season, a vibrant food focused segment of Lucie Cutting’s 936 ABC Radio Hobart program. You can tune in live on Sundays at 11.30am through the ABC’s Listen App for foodie hints and tips and of course, a recipe. Every few weeks you’ll hear from me too, as I join Lucie, who broadcasts from Hobart’s ABC Studios.

I’m loving this opportunity to join Lucie for In Season, as I get to both share a recipe, and chat about it. It’s also great when listeners text in with questions and tips.

The first episode was over the phone and went smoothly. I shared a recipe that can be served as a full dinner. My Crispy Skin Duck recipe featured perfectly cooked duck breast, with a gently spiced compote of in season plums and a wonderfully smooth and sweet parsnip and potato purée. It’s a delicious combo and I enjoyed chatting about the ins and outs of achieving crispy skin on duck breast.

I admit to being nervous the first time on radio. I’ve spoken publicly before and have a tertiary level performing arts diploma under my belt, but my ‘live to air’ nerves were there.

Despite my nerves, that first episode went really well and I was invited back, so here are the first three episodes from March, April and May 2025 for you to listen to at your leisure. I do hope you enjoy!

In Season for your listening pleasure …

Guest spot 1 – Sunday 2 March 2025

For my first spot with Lucie, I featured a full meal of Crispy Skin Duck, spiced plums and parsnip purée.

And here it is, for your listening pleasure.

I celebrated the Easter month with super rich Chocolate Hazelnut Brownies. These take my original Brownie recipe and elevate it with the addition of hazelnuts, hazelnut chocolate spread (think Nutella) and Frangelico, that delicious liqueur.

This was an interesting experience, as I was having phone issues, but Lucie’s producer Tamlyn thought outside the square and saved the day.

Guest spot 3 – Sunday 18 May 2025

Having had the weekend in Hobart with family, I finally had my first in-person spot with Lucie in the ABC Hobart studios.

I was greeted by Lucie’s producer Tamlyn (what a gem!) and, together with my granddaughter Ava who came along, was shown into the waiting area where there was an exhibition of ABC memorabilia, including Big Ted from Play School and a Thomas the Tank Engine.

Lucie had baked my Spanakopita – Greek spinach pie recipe, which was absolutely delicious and I was delighted to take some away with me.

Being in the studio, speaking with Lucie was fantastic and I’d love to get down to Hobart more often and do this again.

A lovely time in Hobart’s ABC Studios for In Season

It was a short time, but a lovely time. Here I am, with Lucie Cutting in the ABC Studios. There’s also a pic of donated blankets for ABC’s winter appeal – Rug Up Hobart. What a great initative.

Stay tuned for my next guest spot on In Season!
