My exciting new radio guest spot gig

It’s time to share some exciting news!

In February I was contacted about becoming a regular guest on ABC Radio Hobart’s Sunday morning In Season segment, hosted by presenter Lucie Cutting.

It all started with an unexpected email that I initially thought might be a scam. But after some research I realised the invitation was legitimate and connected with the producer, Tamlyn Neck. We discussed my move away from Tasmania and what I was missing about Tassie produce, which is next level wonderful when it’s in season.

I have to admit that after cooking and sharing food and recipes for over 10 years it was quite a buzz to have had my Instagram content noticed and to be asked to share what I truly love doing.

Spot one – March

My first spot was in early March. I cooked, photographed and I shared my recipe for crispy skin duck breast with spiced plums and a parsnip/potato purée. The recipe marries duck breast, cooked so most of the fat is rendered out and the skin is crispy and golden brown while retaining pinkness inside the breast. Served with gorgeous plums and a sweet purée – well it’s a full meal.

As well as showcasing beautiful duck breast, the recipe was designed to celebrate Tasmania’s stone fruit; in this case, plums. They’re slightly astringent and so cut through the richness of the duck, with the gentle, smooth sweetness of the purée working to tie it all together. Quite a delicious and rich meal.

Spot two – April

This morning, I experienced some behind the scenes technical hiccups thanks to my iPhone playing up, but thanks to some quick thinking by Tamlyn, I was able to troubleshoot and I joined Lucie again.

This month, being Easter, I figured it was a good excuse to celebrate chocolate, so I baked and photographed some delicious chocolate hazelnut brownies. As I came in a bit late, we dived straight in and chatted about the deliciousness of brownies, celebrated Tasmania’s fabulous hazelnut growers and explored some alternatives to nuts for those with allergies.

Chocolate and hazelnut brownies. Gooey, fudgy, and oh so chocolatey, especially smothered with more melted chocolate. Chocoholics take note!

Spot three – coming up in May

Okay, I’m getting ahead of myself a little, but I’m heading down to Hobart soon and have been invited to join Lucie in the ABC Hobart studios for an in-person spot.

Watch this space for what I’m planning to cook next.

These radio spots are firing up my culinary spark and helping me get back some long-lost creative kitchen mojo. Being able to share my love for good home cooking to a wider audience is truly a joy! 🥰🔥
